Project Description
This residential refurbishment project in West London (Harrow) focused on a highly bespoke internal reconfiguration and joinery solution, responding to the client’s request to redefine how key living spaces were separated and used.
The brief required closing an existing open connection between the kitchen, hallway, and living area to restore privacy, improve acoustic separation, and reintroduce a more traditional spatial layout — while preserving character through the reuse of historic doors.
The project demanded careful planning, precision carpentry, and custom joinery to integrate reclaimed doors into newly formed structural openings, ensuring both functionality and visual harmony with the surrounding interior.
Scope of Works
- Internal layout alteration to close existing open-plan connection
- Design and construction of bespoke timber door frames to accommodate non-standard reclaimed doors
- Restoration and fitting of original period timber doors supplied by the client
- Custom three-door configuration, including:
- One bi-fold door combined with a single hinged door
- Custom two-door configuration using paired single doors
- Precision alignment, framing, and installation to achieve smooth operation and clean sightlines
- Associated carpentry works to integrate doors seamlessly with existing finishes
- Custom coving installation and traditional wall framing / panelling (photographs unavailable)
- Final detailing and finishing to ensure consistency with the wider interior

Project Outcome
Following completion, the property benefitted from a clearly defined separation between living areas, improved functionality, and a strong sense of architectural character.
The bespoke joinery solution successfully combined traditional materials with modern usability, allowing the client to retain and showcase original doors while achieving a refined, purpose-driven layout.
The completed works delivered:
- Improved spatial definition between kitchen, hallway, and living areas
- Enhanced visual character through restored period joinery
- Tailored door solutions that could not be achieved with off-the-shelf systems
- A well-integrated result that complements the existing interior style
This project demonstrates Rylina Properties’ ability to manage complex, detail-led residential works, balancing client vision with practical execution.
